Tawny Frogmouth

Today I discovered a Tawny Frogmouth sitting on a rock in the garden under the Cyprus Pine, I didn't know what it was at first and walked past it a few times before I discovered it was a bird sitting there, I've never seen one of these in the wild before, only in the Zoo... so it was a thrill to discover what it actually was.

While searching the Web I found a site that had a recording of it's noise and now realize that it or some of it's relations have lived here for many years and I've been woken by it's strange ooom ooom ooom ooom noise very early in the mornings... we must be doing something right in our garden eh?
