Didn't we have a lovely day today!

After weeks of grey skies and much needed rain, today was bright, sunny and warm, 20c to be exact... and David and I had our first day out together for yonks, it was National Trust Day at Newport Beach. We were particularly interested to see... 1 Myola Road, 27 Calvert Parade and 7 Calvert Parade because not only do all these private homes front onto Newport Beach #7 is next door to the home David's Grandfather Dudley built in 1925. We lived in this house for several months just after we came home from traipsing around the world for the first time, we arrived home with US$1 and had to get straight to work so when the home came up for sale at $55,000 we couldn't afford it... it would now be worth more than $2million... as we were bemoaning this fact and inspecting the three homes open for our inspection we came across a painter working on #5, we had a bit of a chat and left happy that we hadn't had the money at the time because the maintainenge is enormous on a wodden home right on the beach... salt air means it needs to be painted every two years... it is a beautiful location though isn't it.
The House only slightly altered since Dudley built it...
The nature strip...
We saw so many friends, neighbours and acquaintances today, it's amazing how many people we bumped into but the best part of our day was lunch with Juris... Juris is a school friend of David's, they met when they were 12 but it's only been the last couple of years that we've got to know him and his wife Gay a lot better, tomorrow Juris is leaving to work in Perth for a few years, so it was lovely to be able to spend a couple of hours in his lovely home in Curl Curl before he departs.

Hi Pennie
My memory of Newport is staying with the Russell Prowses(he was a business friend of my fathers and General magager of Bank of NSW) and Dad finding a funnel web spider in his shoe,I think we are talking here about mid fifties when I was 8 or 9.
Wish we could have some of the coastal rain, it's forgotten how to rain west of the sandstone curtain!Regards Christine Colley Bathurst
